“Stand By the Hallway”

On the 6th of September, the DP Music students, Maya, Diyath, and I were tasked with performing at an un-announced show, which did not look like an un-announced show as a lot of people turned up. Quite a number really. This was introduced to us a week before, in which we were filled with a confused, and quite frankly, frightened feeling as we had never done this before, and we only had a week to prepare. He gave us the option of coming up with songs that we would like to perform. I chose to do Stand By Me because my family always preferred for me to perform that song, that I thought, “you know, I’ve never actually performed the song live before, and this is a good time do perform it.” What was even more interesting was that this was to be performed at random locations. For our first one, it was in the hallway right outside of our lockers, which I thought was a good spot. As we walk down, we see a big cloud of people right outside of the student centre, which honestly didn’t worry me that much. I was second, so after Diyath finished his dynamic playing of the piano, I walked up, introduced myself, and started playing. While I was singing, I just sang like how I would sing in my room alone, but at one point, my leg wouldn’t stop shaking. I tried my best to calm it down while singing, and for a split second, I was wondering if it was because I was nervous. But it was just because I was on a tall elevated chair. But after my performance, Mr. Kim, the music teacher laughed and gave me the thumbs up. Even though this was our first time performing in an unannounced location, it did go quite well. This was a good exercise to get rid of our nerves. I wonder what my next song would be…….
