Ben's CAS Journey

Snapshots from my learning in the IB Creativity, Activity & Service (CAS) program

CAS Activity Day

On the 11th of January 2021 we had CAS as our first block lesson on a Monday morning. It was therefore dedicated as a time to do some kind of physical activity and document it. After thinking what I could do, I decided to wake up early, at around 5:15.

From there I put on my shoes and went to my nearby running track to have an early morning run. I personally prefer to go at this time when it is dark as it is more peaceful. There are also less people, and it is much cooler than running later in the day. Contrary to what I usually do, I decided to track my run for the first time. I downloaded an app called Strava, an app which tracks exercise such as running and cycling.

As can be seen from the run breakdown given by Strava, I ran back and forth on the Defense Ministry running track. The total distance was 3.73 miles, at a rate of 7 minutes and 39 seconds per mile. This was for a total of 28 minutes and 34 seconds. This converts to approximately 6 kilometers, and 4 minutes and 45 seconds per kilometer. I hope in the future to record my running more, and see how much I can improve on this timing. A good initial challenge would be to get my minutes per kilometer rate to under 4 and a half minutes. It would also be interesting to see how I would do if I add some extra distance, and maybe do 8 kilometers for example. I also need to consider pacing myself better, as I was much slower towards the end, and actually needed to stop quickly on the last lap. Better pacing and not stopping could mean I can easily cut my kilometer time to under 4 and a half minutes.
