UN day 4.10.2019

Gender based discrimination is an issue we all know of and are definitely aware of. Feminist movements have worked towards empowering women for decades and this years UN day themed ‘gender equality’ allowed us to make our contribution toward the movement.

As per tradition UN day includes a flag parade,food carnival and classroom sessions.This years classroom sessions were dedicated toward educating the students on specific topics under the broader subject of gender equality.Being part of COMUN I was given the opportunity to be a student leader for the classroom sessions alongside Guilia and Muneera from my class.Undertaking a group of students from grades 8,9  and 10 my group was assigned the wage gap as our topic for discussion.Conducting research when presentation slides really allowed me to open up to the issue and made aware of the scale of the issue overall.While the wage gap was a topic I had explored previously preparing for the presentation allowed to look at the problem and possible solutions with more depth.

Besides the educational aspect of the sessions I was also given the opportunity to work on my presentation and speaking skills.I often struggle with projection and presenting ideas clearly, although I believe I have so much more to work on, I do think I improved from the first practice sessions we had and hope to improve further.
