I feel like this semester was more fun than the last one because we were done with the planning for our projects and were ready to take action. Even though we were not able to go to the Vidya Wardeyna school and finish the library because of the unfortunate incident that took place in April, we still achieved some of our minor goals. We collected books for one of the local schools in Jaffna and delivered it to them, but our most significant achievement was our book sale at the annual food and fun fair. We had been tirelessly working as a group to brainstorm ideas about the book sale, and we had already laid out plans about how we were going to get so many books and raise awareness about the sale. For this reason, we spent a class together where we brainstormed ideas of what an ideal poster should look like and how we could make a poster eye-catching. I am glad I got a chance to improve my skills because I am not that great in art. Here is my poster:
Collaborating with my peers made the work easier and gave me a chance to understand how I could make some changes to improve the poster. After we were done with the poster, we had a book drive, where parents, students and many others donated their old books they did not need, and these were the books we sold at the food and fun fair. The book sale was pretty successful, and I was pleased because we had been working and planning for a long time. We were able to collect much money, but unfortunately, because of the unfortunate incident that took place in April, the school was closed for two weeks, and we did not have time to go to the Vidya Wardeyna school and help them organize their library. However, I feel good because I was able to help the local community by providing them with resources. We also found a new school which we look forward to helping next year, and I hope to do even better next year.
