DP-1 Orientation: Borderlands

29th August 2018,

I woke up at 5 am, sleepy and exhausted because of the traveling in the last few days. It was my second day at OSC, and I was already struggling to get out of bed. I remembered that it was Wednesday, which meant that I was going on a trip to Borderlands. I was excited as it was my first trip, yet nervous at the same time because I did not know anyone in DP-1. After making sure I packed everything needed, I had a quick breakfast and set off to school. The trip was fantastic, and it allowed me to get to know my new classmates. It was a challenge, a step out of my comfort zone. Some of the photos might be a bit blurry, but the memories I have made are not.

Day 1:

Day 1 was focused on many physical activities, some of which were canyoning and rafting. As soon as we got off the bus, we were handed helmets and life vests because we were going to do white water rafting. It was my first time rafting, and honestly, I couldn’t be more excited. The activity was based on teamwork as we all had to row at the same time to keep the raft from turning. We made our way down to my favorite part of the trip, which was canyoning. This part was challenging, but we got through it with the help of each other. At the end of the day was the most challenging part of the trip, taking out a block from the giant Jenga without causing a shockwave.

Day 2 was more physically intense as we hiked up to the cave, which was a bit of a walk. We woke up early in the morning and took a swim in the river next to our cabins. The water was cold, and I did not feel like getting in. So I decided to have some tea by myself, which was not a good idea because I got pulled in literally a second later.

We had tea afterward, and then we hiked up to the cave. We got time to reflect on the hike up to the cave, by drawing a map. Almost everyone had different features depicted on the map, which taught me that everyone had different things that they remembered from their surroundings. We headed back down to have lunch, and after that, we had a long hike to the waterfall, but it was worth it. Abseiling was one of the highlights of the trip. Even though I am not scared of heights, I was a bit worried inside, about me slipping. After we were done, we headed back down to the camp, where we planned on interviewing the locals on the last day.

Day 3:

On the last day, we started with some exercises and a morning jog. After that, we headed to a village to interview a local artist. We had prepared questions to ask the artist at the end of Day 2, so we knew what to do. The artwork was pretty impressive! He used only natural materials such as leaves to make his wedding pieces. We headed back to the camp after we finished the interview, and then headed back to OSC.

Conclusion:

Overall, the experiences I had were just amazing. I think this would be one of my best trips that I would be on. Honestly, I never thought that this trip would bring us so much closer to one other. I am glad that I went on this trip. It is a pleasure spending my last two years in school with these people.
