In my last year of high school, a non – negotiable for me was PERFORMING!! As many chances as I could take, I would, so when my close friend Senaka approached me with a prospective Open mic night, I jumped at the idea before he even had time to finish.
The Japanese restaurant Tabe, would begin hosting Open mic nights for a wide range of diverse artists to share their expression in a closed intimate setting.
I loved the idea, sharing spaces with other creators is something I will always seek out, so why not take this opportunity. For our first performance together, Senaka and I went with a trusty karaoke special, Best Part by Daniel Ceaser, as well as our own spin on a classic Linger. On top of these 2, I chose to sing Absence of You by Grent Perez, accompanying myself on guitar to gain more experience as a guitar player and singer, as I’ve already had numerous opportunities to experiment with the piano and my vocals.
The night was something i’ll remember, especially the rose the Aran very graciously gave Senaka and I as his star
performers ( I thought that was really sweet). Im waiting for Senaka to tell me when
the next open mic will be, because we’ve already started planning our next track list to share with artist community, im looking forward to seeing how this develops as a creative experience 🙂
