This Year I had the privilege of giving a presentation at the TED X youth event 2024. Last year I distinctly remember watching these ted talks, wishing I had signed up to speak on a topic I am passionate about. But I missed out last year, and that wasn’t going to happen again. When I heard the topic was perspectives I was so relieved, as I already knew what I wanted to talk about, because it had been a recurring theme in my mind since last year.
My chosen topic was the Resistance movement, specifically the Aragalaya and how perspectives can affect their connotation, and why that can be negative. Whilst I was really excited to give this speech, it was also on the weekend before exams and during the most hectic part of the school year. But still I committed because it was something I wanted to do.
During the speech everything I wanted to say seemed to occur naturally despite me practicing it numerous times, mainly because it was a topic I was genuinely interested in. Looking back, I was really stressed because of the time period the TED x event was situated in, but I am so glad I did it because it was such a valuable experience to me. To be given the platform to speak on a socio – political issue I feel so strongly for is a privilege I am so grateful for, and I look forward to participating again next year 🙂
