I have been part of SOS Village since 7th grade, and recently became a leader of the service group. We work with an organization called “ SOS Village”, a unique orphanage which creates a strong sense of family with kids from different circumstances who didn’t have parental figures. I think it is an amazing group as they actually value the kids’ younger years giving them the upbringing they deserve.
We focus on 2 things: education and recreation. Education through teaching them english, conversational and writing skills as they are becoming more and more relevant by today’s standards. Of course recreation for a bit of fun at the end of their days. We host them every Thursday, and my favorite part of this time is seeing their faces light up at the smallest mention of the pool. They love the pool and our biggest connections are built when we play and laugh together as a group.
Since we started again this year, we developed a new lesson plan to teach the kids English more effectively. Since implementing that, I find our session more successful, interactive and fun for both parties. Stephie and I led in the first session to set the pace for the newer members, and in the most recent session Anais and Amy took the lead in the classroom. For next time I want to develop / expand on the ideas explored in the first 2 sessions. Such as slightly more advanced sentences and command terms/words to ensure we make visible progress. I look forward to when they come next week, and I’m sure the kids can’t wait to get back in the pool 🙂
