Volleyball became a major part of my life last year. It was a sport I discovered later in my life, unlike football which I have played since I was 4. I never really intended to become so attached to volleyball, but after 1 SAISA season, taking home the championship title became so important to me. Th
at’s just some background. We started our season again this year, still on a high from last year’s tournament run. After 3 weeks we started our weekly games again, arguably the best part of the season were these matches with college and club teams.
We started with Dharmapala college before moving onto our favorite opponents from last year, the Lucky 7 and Piliyandala college teams. Both are exceptionally good and are tea
ms we can account a lot of our success in SAISA to.
Our most recent game against Piliyandala on the 3rd went significantly better than the previous one where we unfortunately got swept 4:0. This time we actually put up a fight, 3:1 the final score. The last set was a painful loss as it went to a deuce eventually leading us to lose 30:28.
These games are amazing opportunities to play advanced teams, and to build on our physical and mental skill sets. Numerous times through the matc
h mental blocks had to be overcome, when tensions rose we had to stay calm and connected if we wanted to come back.
With my main goal to stay balanced a
nd also improve within my areas of action, weekly games are a surefire way to achieve this as they are measurable and consistent throughout season 1. Furthermore, the gameselves are extremely fun encountering unique challenges with each new game providing new obstacles to overcome. This leads to steady and new growth, subsequently meaning we don’t stagnate ( as we constantly have to face new challenges). I also track my progress through video reviews of the games and pictures provided by Gecko inc to confirm my participation in the games. Ultimately, these weekly games in the lead up to saisa are both entertaining and beneficial to my learning goals within, and outside of CAS ( ie. maintaining a balanced lifestyle).
