Day 1:We left at 7:00 am and stopped at borderlands for a lunch from where the 3 classes went on to continue their own field trips, On our way to our accommodation we stopped at a tea plantation where we did some tea picking to make our own tea later on the trip, We arrived at our accommodation and rested for a bit and went on a small walk around the area we were staying followed by creating a water source for a turbines, we found a nearby stream and did some hard work to create a water supply system where water would fall in a plastic water tank connected to a pipe which runs down the river, we had some tea and went out for a walk down the road however it quickly started to rain so we had to go back, the day ended with dinner and playing card games.
Day 2:We quickly got ready and had breakfast and headed for a tour around a smallĀ Hydropower plant, we learned about the process of generating power from water, how much water flowed through the turbine per second, head height, efficiency, etc. We headed back and on the way had lunch in a very old building where the Hatton National bank was founded, however it took forever for the food to arrive and I had to wait 40mins to get a glass of coke!!. After arriving we went on to do some calculations and used our self made turbines to collect data from the water source we made, this was really fun seeing our turbines work and generate electricity and how different head heights led to different power outputs, this allowed us to understand how power output can be affected. We then did some more calculations and had dinner and went to sleep.
Day 3:This was the last day of the trip so we visited the Aberdeen falls, the walk down was very long and the walk back up was very very hard as we had to walk around 100m up in altitude, everyone was soaked in sweat and was the most tiring experience. We then headed back to Borderlands to have lunch together with the other classes and headed back to Colombo.
