Just Keep Swimming: SAISA Training Update
The SAISA swimming competition in Chennai, India is coming up in the first week of November and our team has been training since school started. I try to train three times a week with an added two morning sessions which is usually around eight hours a week. This is my second year of being team captain and I’ve made sure to help lead stretches at the start of every session, look out for my teammates and help out the coaches with anything necessary. Just last session I was unable to swim so I worked with the younger kids. Through the one and a half hour session I gilded the last two lanes (mostly fourth to seventh graders) with the session and helped out with their form and technique. A few times I stopped them and demonstrated how to do the drills correctly and for the most part they all applied my advice. From my short session with the group I realized that the team needs to work on flip turns and overall technique in the strokes butterfly and breaststroke. As soon as training ended I had a quick chat with Coach P to plan for Saturday to work on them. I can definitely see the improvement with the team (technique and speed) as well as my own personal growth. Overall I’m very excited to travel with the team and I’m looking forward to the competition in early November (less than a month away!).
