Taking the Plunge! DP Orientation Reflection
DP orientation was an amazing experience and I had a lot of fun going up to Kitulgala for the second time. My first time was in 9th grade for Week Without Walls and though that trip was very fun I preferred orientation since we were only staying for three days and not five. With that I can confidently say that I did not miss canoeing or abseiling. A highlight from this trip was when we were at Belilena cave and I was able to spot a green pit viper and a hump-nosed lizard in the trees just a few meters from each other. I also loved the white water rafting since the water level was much higher than two years ago making the rapids much faster and chaotic to go down with the team. One challenge I faced with this trip was the anticipation for the twelve meter jump at Marvel canyon. The few days leading up to it I was very worried and scared about falling incorrectly and hurting myself, especially after my flip failed on the first day. Thankfully I was one of the first few people to jump to get it over and done with and landed normally. Overall this trip was a great experience getting closer to my peers and helped me to be more of a risk taker and to work collaboratively with others.
