Supporting the Swim Gala
Saturday April 27th, Gecko Ink (a service at OSC) hosted a Swim Gala to encourage the younger swimmers to get excited for the upcoming season in the Fall. They had a few events for kids from 1st to 10th grade to join in on;
- 25 m Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke
- 50 m Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke
- 100 m IM, Freestyle
I was asked to participate and swim, but sadly due to my ankle injury from SAISA basketball I was not feeling right with swimming fast since it still felt uncomfortable. Instead I helped out with time keeping. Each time a heat would go up on the blocks to swim, I would time the kid’s swimming to then be written down on the sheet.
Overall this experience was very nice and wholesome, it was great to see just how excited the kids are to get into the pool and swim. I enjoyed helping out and supporting them despite the Sri Lankan heat in the morning. I’m excited for the next swim season in fall to begin and I hope we do more of these to encourage people to swim!
