A requirement within the CAS program is to conduct and complete a CAS project. Students are tasked with planning a ‘collaborative, well-considered series of sequential CAS experiences, engaging students in one or more of the CAS strands of creativity, activity, and service.’
At the beginning of this process I brainstormed a couple ideas. My first idea was to collaborate with some of my theater classmates in creating a mini-film where I would be the editor, one or two people would act, and one would direct. I decided that this would be a challenging idea due to my aging laptop and its inability to effectively support ‘Final Cut Pro X’, my editing software. Later on I had the idea to create a promotional video for a service group in OSC but I later realized that this would be very difficult for the same reason as the previous idea – my laptop is no longer up for such a large task.
After these rejected ideas I decided to look into how I could benefit the OSC community with my own skills. This led me directly to my extensive knowledge on the sport of basketball. In partnership with a teacher at the school, I have decided to help coach middle school basketball in the 2nd semester of this final academic year. Ideally, this will be in person which will be increasingly interactive for the students, but, if we go back to DLP, I will have to find an alternative way to use my basketball knowledge to benefit others. If we were to go back into DLP I could get in contact with my basketball trainer and see if I could be his helper for his basketball training sessions.
