April 23rd – Housing and Habitat, Home Run

Route of Track

On this day, our service group (Housing and Habitat) did our yearly event Home Run which is essentially a 5km run near school premises. The event was a huge success which brought in more than 50 people that ran the event. On top of that many people brought there dogs with them, overall creating a very nice OSC community experience. To raise money, in order to run the event, everyone participating had to pay 750rs per person which would go to building tables, bookshelf, excetra that would go to a local less fortunate school.

My role during the event was cycling the route, making sure that everyone was on track especially through parts DS2 and DS3 as that area was slightly confusing. The event started off really well, with everyone going through the start perfectly fine and quickly. However during the middle of the event, there was a small miscommunication between me and one of the people at the stops, resulting in no one being on standby at a certain turn. Before the event, everyone was aware about a steep hill-like turn to take which was right after turn DS3. In between DS2 and DS3, where one person was supposed to be, there was another hill which confused my and some of the runners. Due to the miscommunication, I also lead a couple of runners up the hill, however fortunately the hill still lead back to the original route. After this incident, the entire event went on as usual, creating a fun and challenging rollercoaster of an event.

Through this event I “demonstrated that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process”, “demonstrated engagement with issues of global significance, “Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences”, and “demonstrated how to initiate and plan a CAS experience”.
