On June 10th, the school organized a service-learning session for the class of 2025. During the session, the students were assigned to their new homerooms for DP2. I was in a homeroom with Mr. Polus. Our objective was to clean up the school grounds by collecting garbage. After that, we visited a recycling shop and then toured a plastic recycling factory to observe the process of recycling plastic bottles. All of us were assigned different roles. Some would collect plastic, tin, and glass, while I was assigned the role of taking photographs. the role of taking photographs.
In the first half of the garbage pickup session around the school, we focused on cleaning up the streets and collecting trash. We also identified areas with
large piles of waste. In the second half, we went to the lake near the school and gathered around 7 bags filled with glass, tin, and plastic from the banks. During our cleanup, a stranger passing by gave us a fresh bottle of Coke, cheering us on and motivating us for the environmental work.
After picking up the trash, we gathered all the bags and took them to the recycling center on the same street as the school. There, we joined the other group and loaded our garbage bags into the vans. At the store, we noticed the old school textbooks that the school was recycling because they were no longer needed. Afterward, we boarded the buses to visit the plastic recycling factory. At the recycling factory, we observed the recycling process of transparent plastic bottles.
Overall, it was a tiring but fun-filled day.
