New Ambassadors Training Program
These past few years, I have been deeply involved in the OSC Student Ambassadors group. In fact, for the year of DP1, I became the leader of the group. This position hasĀ been very valuable to me, and I have really enjoyed leading and being a part of this team. Some of the ambassador responsibilities include:
– Emailing and Zooming with new students before they arrive to Sri Lanka and the school
– Sometimes coming to school early to help with a new student
– Being willing to give up social time for a few days/weeks in order to help a new student transition into a social group
– Actively checking in with new students and reporting to the Ambassador Leader or the Counselors if there are any problems
My job as leader also includes some additional responsibilities, such as:
– Emailing new parents to welcome them to the community
– Organizing and supervising Zoom calls between new students and ambassadors
– Staying in touch with new parents and answering their questions
– Frequently checking in with the other ambassadors
– Staying in touch with new parents and answering their questions
And now, as we conclude yet another school year, it’s time to welcome a new set of kind, caring, and responsible students to be the new student ambassadors. Last week, the counsellors sent out sign up sheets, and we received 23 entries from students interested in joining! This is a great turnout, and we will be selecting those who we think would make the best ambassadors. I met with the counsellors and Jed (the middle school ambassador leader) and we made a plan for the ambassador training program, which will be taking place after school on Monday, 24th May. There we will be meeting with the prospective new members, and be training them to deal with possible situations that they could run into with new students.
I am looking forward to the training, and hope that the new candidates will be successful in their roles. Being an ambassador is an important role, as these students represent our student body and school to new families.
Learning Outcomes:
4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences – I have achieved this learning outcome, because I have been a student ambassador since 6th grade! This shows my commitment to the cause.
5. Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively – In the group, I work with the school counsellors, and the other ambassadors in order to make our school a more welcoming and inclusive place. I know that I would not be able to do this by myself, and I really value and am thankful for the group I work with!
7. Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions – Being a student ambassador means that we are being selfless, and by choosing to participate in this group, we are working towards making the school a better place.
