Whisking My Stress Away!

One of my hobbies- no, my passions, is baking and creating desserts. I have been a little pâtissier since before I could walk, and my love of the kitchen and everything baking is well known to probably the entire OSC community! For me, creating desserts is an escape. It’s what calms and soothes me whenI I’m happy, sad, angry, stressed – anything! I spend almost every free hour in the kitchen.

However, these last few months have been a struggle for me, because of my journey through year one of the diploma program. I have been so busy with school work, that I have barely spent any time doing the things I love. When the weekend rolls around after a long week of assignments, I’m far too tired to muster up the energy needed to spend a few hours whisking, stirring, and decorating with ingredients. I haven’t baked in a long time, and this was clearly having a negative effect on me!

And then, finally, I had the opportunity to finally bake this weekend! I had barely any assignments due, and no extra work waiting. I was free to have a relaxing and calm weekend. So obviously, I went straight to the kitchen! We have a large indoor kitchen where the cooking for the day gets done, and then we also have a smaller, open, bar-like area with it’s own sink, fridge and set of cabinets. As soon as we had moved to this apartment, I had claimed that little area as mine, and my family respected and agreed to it! So I spent almost the entire Saturday in my little area.

I baked a lemon cake, brownies, dinner rolls and I made chocolate truffles! It truly was a fantastic day 🙂

Here are some pictures of my creations!

Learning Outcomes:

1. Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth – Baking and cooking in general are definitely one of my strengths as a person, and I am always looking to expand my skill set and grow as a chef.
