Gecko Gear – That’s a Wrap pt.1!

This year, our service Gecko Gear has been able to accomplish so much it terms of helping our community inside and outside the school. Our first accomplishment that we must recognize, is the fact that we have been able to raise over $3000 from merchandise sales alone. This is a huge milestone!! And it is something that has been so amazing to see happen in only our first year of functioning. Seeing an idea that was brought up with friends, now being represented throughout our school and around the world with SAISA’s is a real heartwarming feeling and I am proud of myself for being able to make this idea come to life. Another thing that we must recognize is our ‘Kids on Campus’ initiative. As we realized that we needed to involve more community service in Gecko Gear, the kids on campus initiative was the perfect plan. Our objective has been to open up the school doors for our service children to come in and use our facilities, and all our profits go towards making that happen. For example, we pay for all of the bus and van money that is used to fund their travels and to make their coming to OSC a possible experience.

Secondly, for SOS Village, we have been able to make custom swim bags that have been filled with donated goggles, towels, and our own wristbands to give to these children as something that they can use every time they come to swim in the OSC pool. It is a rewarding experience and I am so proud of everyone in our service for making this possible, I am overjoyed to see Gecko Gear supporting a good cause and being of use to the OSC community in every way possible. A special thank you to Ms. Sue and Ms. Kelly for being our biggest support line, filling our minds with ideas, and tolerating all our drama. None of this could’ve been possible without them and they deserve just as much praise as the students do. Its been an amazing year and I can’t wait to see what we have in store for next year (literally).
