Heading into the new school year, it is important for me to update my CAS goals and ensure I am progressing in creativity, activity, and service. Last year, I was able to balance all three, which is something I want to bring with me in this new semester.
- Creativity
During DP1, I noticed apart from expanding my cooking skills and taking part in SGA, there was nothing hands-on that allowed me to produce something that came directly from my creativity. This was especially prominent as I am taking chemistry instead of an Art. Due to this gap in my CAS, I am making it a goal for me to initiate building up my drawing skills. My drawing skills are not very strong, which is not entirely surprising considering as I mostly use them for diagrams to study. By enabling myself the freedom to draw without limits, I believe I will be able to start developing these skills and stimulate my creativity. Additionally, it could act as a stress reliever by becoming a medium to practice wellness, allowing me to disconnect and focus on the present for a moment. My goal is to draw at least twice a week for a minimum of 30 minutes and come up with 4 drawings I am content with by the middle of September.
II. Activity
Personally, I am happy with the progress I have made with my fitness and dedication to staying active during online learning. With another year of handling the covid situation, it is unlikely that any sports events or practices will be held in person, including traveling for SAISA. Without this form of activity, I am looking towards running and home workouts to stay fit. Last year I managed to reach my 5K running goal and over the summer I have managed to do so outdoors. However, in order to improve, I believe it is important to set a new goal. By the end of the semester, I want to run a 7K within 50-60 minutes. Additionally, I want to continue with my workout schedule by following home workout videos 4-5 days a week. I also want one of my exercises to be outdoor based every week as I want to prioritize my wellbeing. This can be in the form of skateboarding, sailing, cycling, or any other outdoor sports that I have fun with as I feel it is important to engage in physical activities that are enjoyable to you.
III. Service
This school year, I am planning to re-join OSC’s Room To Read as service leader as I have been dedicated and enjoy working in this service group. Room to Read is a service group dedicated to providing well-resourced reading spaces for local schools around Sri Lanka through the facilitation of necessary materials. This year, we will strive to continue our partnership with the Vidyaloka Vidyalaya school in Honkandora. To see last years end of year service reflection, click here. We will focus on building a stronger bond with the school and continue fundraising in order to continue facilitating their library and helping with construction funds.
