Over the course of the month, I have been dedicated to progressing in my 5K running journey. In an attempt to beat my previous time of 40 minutes and 30 seconds, I dedicated a small portion of my time after school to go running. I focused on building up my endurance and speed, focusing on long-distance runs between 3 to 5 km. Running whilst on online learning allowed me to continue reaching towards an attainable goal, motivating me academically in the process.
I was able to reduce my 5K time to approximately 34 minutes and 40 seconds, which was a big accomplishment for me. This progress reflects the effort I have put in this past month, acting as a motivator for me to continue improving. Throughout this 5K experience, I have found myself more invested in running and the general experience much more enjoyable. I am surprised by my improvements made over the course of these past few weeks and hope to continue with them. I have accomplished my start of the year DP1 CAS activity goal as I managed to maintain my fitness and run a 5K over the course of the semester.
This connects to the CAS learning outcomes as I have identified that I had to improve my stamina and fitness, and acted upon this through forming a goal. I developed my running skills and overall physical endurance, evident by my progress, however, I was also able to challenge myself mentally by pushing myself to improve on this challenging fitness goal. I have dedicated myself to improving my running time, showing my commitment to this goal by running at the gym at least twice every week as well as through working out a minimum of 4 days a week. I am satisfied with the progress I have made so far and hope to improve over the course of the next school year as well. I strive to get to 30 minutes to complete a 5k and hope to run a 10k by the end of next year and continue enjoying the activity.
