Kitulgala
We arrived to kitulgala on the 23rd of august. The main purpose of the trip was to being all of together as a grade especially since this next two years are probably the most rememberable years of our lives. It was also really good for me since I was a new student and I barley knew anyone so it gave me a chance to get to know people better.
The trip was also a way for me to expand on my skills and to conquer my fears since it was a very new experience (and for me it was because i hate leeches and tried to avoid them every step of the way). Prior to the trip i had never gone canyoning so it was a challenge i was willing to take.
One thing i never expected about canyoning was that we were going down rocks and the river. I was scared at first thinking that it would hurt but once i did it i realized how fun and exciting it was. In between each slide or jump in the canyon we had to wait for everyone to come down so it gave us time to have conversations with others and socialize so it was also a fun time to connect with other people i don’t know. Which was especially great for me since i barley new anyone. We also had a bit of team building activities hosted by borderlands during the period we were there which helped even more
Towards the end of the canyoning one of the guides asked me to conduct the last slide and drop down to where we would have lunch. I was nervous at first since i didn’t want to mess up and eventually have blood on my hands but after he demonstrated it to me a couple of times i got confident and decided to take a risk. It was quite fun to take over and be in a sort of leadership role. I had a couple of failed attempts that led to people stopping mid way and then suddenly falling down but it also led to laughs and fun times. So overall it was a fun experience and towards the end i was able to send my self down without any help so i ended up learning something as well. It also gave me a knew perspective of how they do this safely and how they ensure that you don’t fall down and hurt yourself that i couldn’t have gained by just going down like everyone else
One of the highlights on the first day was that after we got to camp and finished all the activities when we were winding down the teachers brought out a cake and started singing happy birthday to me since it was my birthday. It was very surprising and i dint expects it but something i was grateful for.
Finally one of the last days one of the most memorable moments was when we took the 10m drop off the marvel canyon it was the thing I was most looking forward too and the thrill of falling down was something i will never experience again for a long time.
