Golf With My Dad – 2
This week, the family golf rounds were accompanied by some good music, nice sunsets, and a lonely course which was the perfect setting for this week’s insights from my dad.
Some of the topics we spoke about were how companies could create ecosystems to lock customers into consuming the main product as well as complementary products from one company in order to increase the sources of revenue and things like our predictions for the world cup.
But this week’s topic of conversation that was the most interesting is how a crisis can be a perfect opportunity to create significant change. He gave the example of how Sri Lanka adopted the QR code for fuel fulfilment for vehicles and how it made it possible to track how much petrol was being bought and how it was being distributed to the country. This type of system to get every car in Sri Lanka to use QR would have taken much longer if not for the crisis as the people are comfortable and would argue why we need the change even though the positives outweigh the benefits.
This made me understand the fact that even with the crisis in the world right now such as global inflation and the markets being down, it is possible to use it as an opportunity to get a lot of money while still making sure that the methods used to get money are ethical and legal.
