CAS GOALS – OCTOBER 2022
Previously, everything I did that was not related to academics were fueled by my own interest rather than the focus on living a balanced life. Luckily, my interests align well with the three aspects of CAS which are Creativity, Activity, and Service. In the DP I am looking forward to using this blog and the whole CAS experience to start evaluating the extracurricular activities which I already take part in as well as to start and explore other activities in a way that shows purpose and value to the things that I already enjoy doing.
To track the progress that I’ll make over the two years of the DP, I will have a few goals for each of the three pillars of CAS to guide me through my experiences.
ACTIVITY/ACTION
One of my favorite things to do is to play competitive golf. My goal as a golfer is to finish this DP year with a handicap that is less than 5. I am currently playing with a handicap of 7.3. To accomplish this I will have to spend extra time working both on my technique as well as my mindset which is something that is costing me a lot of shots at the moment. To achieve this goal I plan to spend 10 hours a week playing golf or working on a specific part of my game whether it be a technical aspect with my coach or whether it is my mental game and strategy which I work on with different people. I play at-least one tournament per month which is an opportunity to track my scores in tournament condition and it is also an opportunity for me to improve my handicap which I can use in order to track whether I am making progress on my goal or not.
My second activity goal is to go on a SAISA trip because I think that going on a trip with a team of people is a key part of being a Gecko and something that I want to experience before going to college. Being a part of a team and working towards one collective goal where everyone has responsibility is something that I want to experience and I believe that it will help me in my approach to my goal as well. The sports that I will try out for are Volleyball and Football and the goal is to make one of these two teams.
SERVICE
Goals for Gecko Network and myself.
This year will be my third year as the service leader of Gecko Network and I want this service to be more prominent in the school community than it has been in the past. This will be my first year where we are fully face to face which means that we have access to more opportunities to document, create and share the happening of OSC with the community.
To achieve this goal, Mr. McMahon and I spoke about the concept of increasing the amount of content while reducing the time it takes to produce content. We will accomplish this by creating more short-form content which is the most consumed format of the content being consumed by views at the moment.
As a leader, my goal is to work on creating a structure that facilitates the production of this content in the most efficient way. It is also important that we make sure that the community understands that the work we do is important and can actually be called “service” but, I am confident that with the opportunities we have this year, we can create meaningful content that can inform or bring awareness to something or to someone in the school community.
This year we will also have many new students joining Gecko Network from grades 7 and 8 and this year will be important in training these students and making sure that they continue to do this service so that once I graduate, there will be a passionate service leader who will want to take this service to the next level.
CREATIVITY
Over the past few years, I have been leading Gecko Network which is a service that focuses on spreading information through content creation. This year as a leader I want the service to create more content and we will achieve this by creating more short-form content. This process to create more short-formed content have the same processes as longer content such as planning, filming, and editing.
As well as that I have been doing the lighting for the senior productions since eighth grade and recently the spring gala I want to continue working with Mr. Lakshitha and Ms. Jackson to do this year’s senior production as well.
