Victoria’s CAS Journey

My extra-curricular activities at OSC

SAISA girls basketball 2024

This was my first SAISA sports event, and I was super pumped for the opportunity. Our team had quite the rollercoaster ride at the tournament, which took place from April 18 to 20. I’m really proud of the effort I put in.

We were in a pool with LS, AISD, and AISC, so we had to face off against each of them to secure our spot in the playoffs.

Day 1: Tough Losses to AISD and LS

We started the day against AISD, the game was close throughout, with AISD winning by 17-16. Despite the loss, we played well as a team. We were still nervous and not ready but I think that we could have done so much better. Our second match was against defending champions LS. Still reeling from the previous loss, we gave it our all but fell short, losing 27-10.

Day 2: Win Over AISC, Dramatic OT Victory vs ASB

This was also a nerve racking game but I gave it my best and I got to make 3 of the points that got us the lead which was really exciting. We executed our game plan perfectly and won 25-16. This was a crucial result as it led to a three-way tie in our pool with AISD and AISC, with us finishing second on points difference.

In the quarterfinals, we had a thrilling match against ASB that went into overtime tied at 18-18. Our team showed great determination in the extra period, securing a 21-18 victory and earning a spot in the semifinals. However, I got a concussion while attempting to score, as I was accidentally elbowed in the head. Despite being unable to continue playing, I must say that it was truly an incredible team effort.

Final Day: Semifinal Loss to Host TASIM, Disappointment in 3rd Place Match

Nerves and the lively home crowd affected us in the semifinal against TASIM. Despite our best defensive efforts, we lost 23-12. Disappointed but not defeated, we entered the 3rd place match against ACS with hope. It was an aggressive game, but ACS won 38-12.

As the first and probably last SAISA basketball  tournament, the loss was tough to take. But we gave it our all and should be proud of how far we went. The experience has brought us closer as a team and motivated us to work even harder for next season.
