Vansh’s CAS Project – Cancer Awareness

Cancer is a prevailing cause of death around the world today with 20 million newly reported cases in 2022 alone (WHO). This might seem like a huge number, but it alos means an in creased reproting of cases which comes along with more awareness and intervention. Taking on the inittiative on cacner awareness, I had been actively part of my Hope for Kids Service this year in DP 2. This allosed me to undertake various service experiences, includind dry ration and bed linen donations and Cricket match fundraiser.

However, I wanted to futher this experience throught the means of my CAS project, hence why I undertook this project. I began explroing various ideas that I could do to spread awareness in our community. During my research, I figured that it would be best to serve our school comminity more and spread more awareness about this issue. I realized most of our service experiences were centered around highschoolers, when we could focus more on middle schoolers who would take the baton for furture successors of our school. Taking inspiration from that, I decided on educating the MYP1 (grade 6) more regarding this issue.

Step 1 – Planning and challenges

The initial step was planning everything out. This inclided writing a mail to MYP 1 teacher, Mr. Van Zijl and getting him on board with the idea.

Planning via mail

After holding discussions reagrding the structure of the presentation and the way it would be conducted, we figured it would be best to make it more interactive and engaging to the needs of middle schoolers. Another challenge to cater to was the timing of the presentatio, which would again set in accordance to the attention span of a middle schooler. Despote the slight hiccups faced due to exams, I was able to plan my project well.

Step 2 – Execution

After planning my presentation, I w’as able to deliver ot to MYP 1. Here are some photos of the process.
