Vanish’s Service Updates – Hope For Kids

Hope for kids is a service based group which aims to provide basic amenities to kids suffering from cancer. This quarter, our focus has been on organizing various events and fundraisers to make a positive impact.

To kick off the quarter, we raised awareness for breast cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in November. We strategically placed informative infographic posters around the school, offering insights into what breast cancer is and providing contact information for those seeking assistance. Along with that, we also had a talk with primary kids during primary assembly, informing them about cancer and how they can be future leaders in helping those in need.

We also organized a fundraising stall during senior production. The money from that was then used in our later projects like the Christmas lights project. As part of this project, we packed many gift paackages containing a towel, bed linen and toys for the kids in CCC foundation home. During the quarter, we made frequent visits to CCC foundation, which is basically a cancer care home for kids and elderly.

Along with that, we also posted inforgraphics around school and collected donations for light of love, wherein the money collected would go in charities. As of now, we have collected LKR 62300 in total.

Looking ahead, we have exciting plans for our upcoming projects, including the Hope for Kids Charity Cricket Match. The money raised from ticket sales and food purchases during this event will once again be directed towards donations, furthering our commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of children facing cancer.

During the service, I developed these learning outcomes

LO6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance. Through the means of this service, we hope to provide kids suffering from cancer a better standard of living by providing them with basic amenities.
