Rns service quarter 3 2023
This quarter, during service, we got back on collecting waste paper from around the school. Gradually, after not been to work as effectively during lockdown, we are slowly getting back on track with our things. Our visits to the nearby recycling centre are now regular, and we have a designated recycling place in our school where we collect, dump and store all the recycled stuff. It’s also good to know how people in our school have, over the course of this year, bettered themselves in terms of what they dispose and how they dispose it. For example, before we would find tons of plastic in the recycling boxes of various classrooms, but we can say that’s not the case now (most of the time). People have become more responsible, and in fact many even make a point of trying to recycle as much as possible. Finally, the best part of the service as I always say is the popcorn treat we get at the end.
Learning outcomes
LO3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience. Doing service is part of a CAS experience, and hence a learning outcome.
LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively. During the service, we worked collectively at different points in time. For instance, we divided paper collection work in groups where each group went and collected paper from different section of the school.
LO5 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance. Through the means of this service, we are trying to address a bigger issue which is being more sustainable in our actions, and trying to recycle as much as possible so we have a circular model of using things.
