Cricket asa with mr. poulus
For my after school activity, I chose cricket as my sport. As an Indian kid, with a dad who is obsessed with cricket, I feel like cricket has been a very integral part of my life. Back in those days, I used to play cricket on the dusky streets of Delhi, India. In fact, cricket was one of the very first sports I played. Along with that, I love watching cricket with my dad. It’s a good father-son bonding time, commenting about the match and each distinct player.
Clearly, this makes cricket key to my identity. For that reason, when OSC offered cricket, I joined the cricket gang. The teacher supervisor is Mr. Poulus. Of course, we got Diyath and his brother, and they are always a good company.
Step 0 – The session on Tuesday pulled off with us taking 2 laps of the field as a quick warm-up to get our body running. It was followed by a short 2-min warm-up exercise drill. For any sport, it’s integral to warm the body up, and allow each body part to perform with maximum efficiency during the game.
Step 1 – We also did field practice after, as we were given a few catches along. It allowed us to focus on our ball handling skills, and it gave us something to reflect upon and what we can improve on to excel in this game. For me, personally, every cricket ASA brings back memories of cricket from India. It’s a rather nostalgic experience.
Step 2 – Midway through the session, we switched to actual playing the game. Since there wasn’t much time left, we decided on playing individuals, where each of the batsmen batted 2 overs. I managed to wack some sixes and some classy fours on the onside. Gully cricket, a phenomenon classic to playing in India, influenced a higher inclination of straight shots I played. However, I was, indeed, heavily impressed by the cricketing skills of Mr. Poulus. His leg side flick and offside back punch shots were quite classy and elegant. I managed to score some runs, with the aggressive gameplay.
An interesting goal, I plan on setting up for cricket is actually working on my bowling speed and accuracy. So, for every over I ball, reduce my wide bowls to 1. Alongise, also work and also aim to improve further in batting. So, aim to hit at least 2 balls in every over on the onside.
Overall, I think this session helped us get sweaty and motivated us to stay physically fit through sports. We are planning to organize a staff-student cricket match in the future.
