Vanish’s first Reading buddies session

Reading buddies

Today, me and Shinara, held our first reading buddy session with the preschoolers. We read them “If you give a Mouse a cookie”, which narrated the tale of how a mouse got sidetracked and ended up doing all sorts of things, not necessary to his motive. It was a rather brief reading session, and a quick round of intro with the kids preceded. I gave many of them a high five, and they seemed to love me for it. The kids contently heard us read them the story, while they listened to what happened. However, as a young toddler, they were a bit shy and reserved to us specially since this was our first proper interaction with them.

The story, although very simple and for a very young audience, in my personal opinion holds a strong message which even us as DP kids can learn. It teaches us, how we need to stay focused on achieving our goal, rather than getting side tracked by other wasteful non-relevant activities. This holds immense important in these 2 DP years for me, as staying focused will me achieve my goals better.

Post the reading session, Mrs Ivonne i.e. the preschool teacher, helped us conduct a brief interactive questionnaire with the kids. She guided us around, to engage kids more into grasping the story by asking them simplistic yet question significant to the story. Overall, the reading itself was partially successful in a way. Although, we were able to read to them, for next session we aim at working on a better delivery style of content. Personally, I hope to know these kids better, and have fun with them and experience that preschool age yet again.
