With 2 days to go until my graduation, My CAS journey has to come to an end. My CAS blog has really focused on 3 specific IB learning outcomes which are:
- Self-awareness
- Collaboration
- Perspective taking
I aimed to make every CAS experience relate to these 3 themes as I believed these were the most important to my progress during my Diploma years.
A lot of the creativity and Service that engulfed my CAS experience was film and video-editing. I worked together with so many people, in my own service group, classmates, teachers and staff to help create content. I helped with COMUN as the Deputy Head of Technology, creating a rap-up video, making videos for SAISA events such as Boys volleyball, trailers for productions and now service videos for the services at OSC. I was able to understand that the whole process of making a video requires constant communication, team effort and support because if it wasn’t for the people I had around me to assist me, many videos would not be published on time with the amount of effort put into each video.
Action:
I was fortunate enough to participate in 3 sporting competitions, 2 SAISA Basketball events and 1 SAISA football tournaments. I was able to understand what it meant to participate in a team. Being able to work with other people is an important skill and in the context of sports, being able to function under pressure along side a team is what makes sports an important part of my CAS Journey. I also learned a lot about my own abilities. Sports help you understand your limits and performance capabilities which you try to overcome to make the team as strong as it possibly can be. I also heavily submerged my free time in weight-lifting and martial arts because I understood more about who I was as a person when I did things that challenged me on a physical and mental level. I started to understand that everything that you can possibly do is a mental game and not a physical one which has now been my approach to life entirely.
I appreciate everything the CAS process has helped me realize, being able to document all the key moments in my DP years and categorize them into Creativity, Action and Service helped me have a wider perspective on the importance of having a balanced lifestyle where I continuously aid my community and myself.
