SAISA Football, just like the previous SAISA Basketball post is a competition between south asian schools on a smaller pitch, 7 aside consisting of group games and playoff games to ultimately decide, which school rules football. Personally, I like the sport of basketball more, but this SAISA, besides our result was so much fun. Each game we played, we were being tested to a high degree, nobody played with low effort and we really played with out hearts under the scorching heat of Bangladesh. Many of us got injured, either from tackles or large scrapes from falling over and burning up against the astroturf. We played some great minutes of amazing football, but we also played some moments of terrible football. SAISA was full amazing highs and awful lows, like when we lost to AISD in the quarter-finals to progress to the semi-finals, the whole team, including myself were devastated. Not only because we could no longer win the tournament, its also because people who were once in our school, who played for the same team as us, now beat us. But, while facing each of the schools in our group and playoff games, we had our own set of little fans, the 3rd graders, who created banners and posters, cheering us on and even ask for all of our autographs. During some free time we had, we visited our fans in their classroom as they got to ask any questions they pleased. They shouted “Number 2 is my favorite, can I have number 2’s jersey, can he join our school” as my teammates and I couldn’t stop laughing. They even gave us stickers of geckos they made for us which I still have. We taught the 3rd graders our Gecko Chant which they struggled with at the start, but softly hummed in the background of our day 2 games. Besides football, I got to reunite with friends I grew up with that had left OSC. However, Besides meeting old friends, SAISA helps to forge new friends from different schools and I made some friends which I hope to see in future tournaments.
