The One with My CAS Goals (Round 2)

And my senior year begins! Highschool has been quite a rollercoaster for me, especially looking back at last year’s extracurriculars. I set myself 3 CAS goals at around this time last year, and I believe that I’ve not only fullfilled them but exceeded my own expectations. And here’s how…

Goal 1: Creativity

Last year, for creativity, I participated in 5 four school events: COMUN EXCO 2019, UN Day 2018, Winter Gala 2018, Spring Gala 2019, Senior Production 2018. In Colombo Model United Nations 2019, I was the deputy head of the international press corporation. For United Nations Day 2018, I was the master of ceremonies for the secondary school assembly and leader one of the groups during the UN youth awareness presentations. For The Senior Production 2018, Winter Gala 2018 and Spring Gala 2019, I was the master of lights for all the performances.

This year, I plan on changing my creativity extracurriculars to groups such as Zonta Club, which is an organization that promotes human rights activism amongst the youth of Sri Lanka, and spreads awareness about current issues being faced around the world, and the school robotics teams. I am the head of technology this year for Z-Club, and I am one of the student assistants for the robotics club.

Goal 2: Activity

Last year, I trained with the girls volleyball team and participated in the SAISA Girls’ Football tournament. I had set the goals to initially partake in 3 sports teams (2 years of volleyball and one year of football) for both of my DP years.

However, I have decided that instead of participating in the SAISA Girls’ Volleyball tournament, I will travel for football instead for my senior year. I decided this because I have been playing football since the 8th grade, and it is a sport I have become very attached to. Seeing that this is my senior year, and football season is between October and February, I believe this would be a good fit to my activity component for the remainder of my senior year.

Goal 3: Service

Finally, my third goal is focused on serving the community. Community service is taken very seriously at the Overseas School of Colombo but is something I find really important, personally. Last year, I participated in GeckoNetwork, which is a tech service at OSC that aims on documenting all events that take place in the school or we participate in. Outside of school, I also worked with a youth foundation called Zonta-Club that promote human rights activism amongst the youth of Sri Lanka, and spreads awareness about current issues being faced around the world.

For my senior year, I have decided to change my service group from GeckoNetwork to Girls for Girls. Girls for Girls is a gender-equality service that aims to help a group of sexually abused, assaulted or raped victims, who are all female. We are expected to entertain these girls, by playing different games and activities with them and visit the emerge center once in a while. Additionally, I am now the Head of Technology for Z Club, where I will continue to support the foundation while collaborating and creating projects for them.
