Down South Day 4 and 5

The 4th day of WWW had the biggest hike that we had on this trip so far, although I think that it certainly didn’t feel like it. We started the hike at around 10:30 in the morning, and took a detour to visit a large rock platform. There we stayed for some time and rested, looking at the views and taking pictures of frogs.

We walked back – I was always at the front this time – something I discovered was quite useful in helping me keep up the pace. At first I thought that being at the front would exhaust me out, however, it seemed that it was just as calming as being in the middle of the line.

The hike to the waterfall was EXTREMELY downhill, which made me wonder about how slippery it might be to climb back up again – especially considering that the place was very damp. Although I did slip a few times, it was very rewarding to look up at the astounding waterfall.

Here we were able to have fish massages as well! Despite not getting fully into the water, I believe that I was able to fully live this experience. It was awesome to rest there for some time, and I was rather sad to be getting ready to go back.

As I had initially thought, climbing back up was rather tiresome and difficult – I had tripped quite a few times on the way back. Nonetheless, I think that my ability to keep the pace and stay with the group was very good. Finally, we arrived back at the Rainforest Ecolodge and rested the entire day.

This was the last active day of out Week Without Walls, and the very next day was just spent getting ready to go back. Going back down from the hotel was a strange feeling and I wished I could relive that entire trip again. The bus ride back was filled with relaxed conversations and sleeping on the way, and we were finally home! Week Without Walls was over.

Learning outcomes:

  • LO5 – Showing perseverance and commitment
    • I think that on Day 4 was when I got to see the most perseverance and commitment from myself, we did the longest hike of the entire trip and I was perfectly pumped throughout it!
    • I did not allow myself to stop and was able to achieve the goal of being at the front of the line – which was a lot easier than what I had initially imagined.
    • I think that overall, this was the learning outcome that I had the most success in!
