Brownies galore!
This Monday the SGA held a (very successful, by the way) bakesale. We had been planning this for a few weeks, and I was delighted to see it being carried out successfully – so successfully, in fact, that I wasn’t able to buy anything before they were all sold out! I think that this experience would be a clear indicator that this event had been carried out together very well.
Behind the scenes, there was quite a lot of planning and allocation of work that allowed this bakesale to come together. During the SGA meeting we started off with first deciding what the fundraising method would be – through general consensus, we decided that a bake sale would be the best option as a majority of the students enjoy and participate in them. Either way, who doesn’t love baked goods?
The grade representatives had also contributed significantly to the planning and conducting of the bakesale, through the collaboration of our ideas and baking goods in order to sell. The DP 1 grade representatives, Eleez and I, attended all these meetings and contributed the idea of selling brownies – of which we were later allocated to make for the bake sale. Eleez and I each decided on a singular recipe and baked about 20 pieces each.
I hadn’t baked brownies before, so this was a new experience for me – although, I did have to get my mum to help sometimes. There were a few complications with the recipe calling for a bit too much sugar, however, my mum and I adapted to this while baking and were able to overcome it effectively. I think that in the end they turned out really well and I was quite proud of them, perhaps I will make more in the future to share!
Learning objectives
- LO5 – Working collaboratively with others
- I feel that this event required quite a lot of working together with the people that were around me, primarily, it was communication with the SGA members about the technicalities on what I would be contributing to the bake sale.
- Furthermore, I think that the other DP1 grade representative – Eleez – and I were able to communicate effectively in order to work out how we would be syncing the brownies.
- LO3 – Initiative and planning
- The bake sale requires a large amount of planning, more so than I would have thought before I took part in the SGA. I think that we were able to take initiative and plan highly efficiently. This thorough planning was what, ultimately, made the bakesale a huge success.
- Working together as a group in order to complete small steps of our plan and “divide and conquer” allowed me and the other SGA members to carry out this bake sale properly.
- LO2 – Challenge and skills
- Baking isn’t something I do often, and brownies were a very new endeavor for me. However, with this bake sale, I was able to try out making something new – and with the help of my mum I think that I was very successful in exploring something and succeeding!
