Journée de l’ONU බයිලා Présentation

Partager des éléments de la culture sri-lankaise avec les élèves de la classe de maternelle, grande section – baila!

Avant de la présentation: 

Pour la journée de l’ONU cette année, les classes de langues du secondaire ont décidé de présenter aux élèves du primaire certaines traditions ou éléments culturels – dans la classe de français B de Mme Fert, nous avions des sujets comme les crêpes et danses de la région Bretagne.

Premièrement, j’ai fait partie d’un groupe qui a présenté la “danse bretonne”. Nous avons fait un diaporama qui montrait les paysages de la Bretagne, la carte et d’autres faits intéressants à ce sujet (comme le fait que les Français mangent 25 000 tonnes d’escargots chaque année!) A la fin du diaporama, il y avait une vidéo montrant la danse bretonne. Et nous ferons la danse traditionnelle bretonne à la fin avec les élèves de l’école maternelle.

Cependant, je ferai également une présentation en sri lankaise. Donc, malheureusement, je ne pourrais pas participer à la présentation sur la danse bretonne.

Après de la présentation:

Mais, Diyath et moi avons fait un diaporama sur le baila – une danse culturelle au Sri Lanka, qui est habituellement dansée lors des fêtes. Nous avons travaillé pour faire le diaporama amusant.

Le jour de l’ONU, a mon avis, la présentation etait très bien – c’était du gâteau. Les élèves de l’école maternelle étaient très intéressés sur le suject de baila et nous avons dansé avec eux. Je suis fière du travail que nous avons accompli!

Sharing a part of Sri Lankan culture with the KG students – baila!

For UN day this year, the secondary languages classes decided to present to primary students on certain traditions or cultures – in Ms. Fert’s French B class, we had topics related to Bretagne crêpes and dances.

Initially, I was part of a group that will present on “danse Bretonne”. We made a slideshow that showed Bretagne’s location on the map and other interesting facts about it (like the fact that French people eat 25 000 tonnes of snails each year!). At the end of the slideshow, there was a video showing the Bretagne dance. And we will do the traditional Bretonne dance at the end with the preschool students.

However, as I will also be doing a Sinhala presentation (at the same time), I sadly was not able to participate in presenting the presentation on danse Bretonne.

But, Diyath and I made a slideshow on baila – a cultural dance in Sri Lanka that is normally danced at parties. We worked to make the slideshow fun for the KG students.

On UN day, the presentation went very well in my opinion – it was a piece of cake! The KG students were very interested about the topic of baila, and we danced it with them too. I am quite proud of the work we accomplished!

Learning outcomes

  • LO3 – Initiative and planning
    • The final presentation itself lasted about 10 minutes – but putting it all together required a number of weeks of planning. We had to brainstorm ideas that would engage the younger students and still communicate information. 
    • There was a large amount of planning and creating slideshows, and then running them through teachers and making sure that they were in the best shape.
    • Thus, I think that my planning skills and ability to take initiative have increased greatly as a result of this experience.
    • Writing this post in French also allows me to improve my French – particularly in my writing and my accuracy when employing cohesive devices and proper grammar/ accents.
  • LO4 – Working collaboratively with others
    • I had to collaborate both in a group and with a partner when making these two presentations. There was quite a lot of task allocation behind-the-scenes of these presentations and doing our best for the group.
    • Not only was this learning outcome present while creating the slideshows, but the final presentation itself also required collaboration. Diyath and I had to work together to make sure that our presentation on baila went smoothly.
