French CAS: Créativité

French creativity CAS

This year for French we are exploring very in-depth into “L’identités” and were enabled with the opportunity to incorporate this into CAS. I decided to explore Identities in terms of fictional characters and was able to make a poster on Laurent Thierry from the anime Great Pretender. I believe that choosing this character allowed me to connect a lot more with the poster I was making – as my fondness for the show made it much more personal to me. As a result of this, the creation of the poster was extremely enjoyable and I was able to make the overall aesthetic of the poster fit with the character, Laurent.

Relating to this, I think I succeeded most in the digital creation of the poster – as it was what I was most satisfied with. I was able to get in tune with my creativity and accumulate colors and shapes which complemented the text and picture of the character I chose. Pondering about this part of the poster creation now, I realize that this slightly relates to my long-term Creativity goal of improving in digital art. This poster creation was able to exercise a bit of my color theory and composition skills – which come in very useful when drawing digitally.

Regarding the textual elements, I had previously asked Ms. Fert, my French teacher, to look through my text on this poster and was able to communicate effectively in improving my writing. I found it to be a bit out of my element to be describing a character as eccentric as Laurent Thierry – usually, in class, you’d describe someone very normal and definitely not a fictional conman. Therefore, at the time I had a limited vocabulary in regard to describing topics like this. But with the help of new online French resources, I was able to find very good vocabulary words to use. Also, as you can see, there is quite a significant amount of text on this poster – this was even after cutting down my original word count! My original text is shown below:

This might be a key aspect in which I could improve, not just in French, however, in other subjects too – keeping myself concise might be beneficial. Ways of following through with this aim could be achieved by using a word counter to observe how much I write, and making sure that I do not ramble/ overwrite.

However, in the end, I think I was quite happy with my use of French vocabulary and was able to learn a lot of new words (such as “escroc”, “apprécie”, “corrompu” etc.) whilst engaging quite a lot in creative skills. I’d definitely like to come back to this post after some time and review how I’ve progressed in my French skills and digital designing skills since then – maybe I could potentially remake this poster and see what differences there are?

Learning outcomes:

  • LO1 – Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.
    • I think that this learning outcome was touched upon pretty well, I successfully recognized areas that I did quite well in during this CAS activity and others which I could improve on for the future – and not just for French.
    • I was able to give specific methods to improve those areas and have considered how to reflect after some time in order to measure my progress.
  • LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
    • I have demonstrated my challenges with describing an eccentric and new persona in French and was able to overcome this with the help of my teacher and online French resources.
    • I think that I was able to show that I had accumulated new knowledge as a result of this activity – with the exposure to new French words.
