Getting back into expressing myself through journaling
Back in early 2020 – during lockdown – I had started journaling and writing on a whim as a way of wanting to express emotions and getting through boredom. I got very into this pastime and was able to fill up about half of the book that I picked for journaling. This consisted of me exploring different artforms and doing free-writing in order to alleviate my thoughts.
However, with the start of 10th grade and as school life picked up the pace I was not able to take the time to journal – and often forgot about my half-completed journaling book. While going through some of my notebooks last weekend, I had come across this journal and decided to take it up again.
I first did some abstract artworks to re-familiarize myself with how I had done journaling previously. While I think that it was a bit strange to get back into how I had been journaling before, I believe that it was extremely useful to start off slow. Doing this allowed me to take off the pressure of attempting to best myself in the journal entries that I had done in 2020.

I was able to complete a few pages of journaling, and I think that it was a lot more fun than I remembered it being (almost) two years ago. As a result of this, I want to be able to journal more frequently and at set intervals – so that I do not end up falling out of doing journaling as a hobby once again.
Learning objectives:
- LO2 – Challenge and growth
- I think that I definitely observed growth in myself and my journaling skills during this CAS activity.
- While it was a bit strange to get back into journaling, I believe that I was definitely able to extend my skills and challenge myself to do as much journaling as I could at one time.
- LO3 – Initiative and planning
- I think that by planning what I will be doing in the future in relation to journaling and taking initiative of it, I successfully expressed this Learning Outcome. I surely plan to hold myself true to the future plans that I want to uptake.
