Helping fix a Roomba for My mom

For the past two months I have been working on a massive project and fixing our vacuum cleaner which is a Roomba. So one day I set the Roomba to do the usual work which is clean the rooms in our house and all of a sudden the device came across an error saying code 10 and code 35 “wheel problem please check the Roomba app for further details. So I did the first job is cleaned all the dust and dirt from the unit and set it on the floor. The problem was still there and it looked like more work had to be done. So I took the tools and set to work by taking down the part of the vacuum cleaner all the way to the wheels. I noticed in the wheels the force I was putting to move the wheels on the left side was not running fast enough similar to the right side. Since that was an issue me and Dad called the Roomba company in the US to ask them to bring out another left wheel on our next amazon box. Fast forwarding to next month the Air-fret from amazon came with the spare wheel and I thought once speaking the spare wheel everything would be right as rain but boy was I wrong, The problem was still occurring and I was suspicions that it was the right side that does not work. At this point I was in sticky situation because I could not wait for another month till a spare right wheel came, so it took a long to decide what to do next.

I even tried to do google searches and I can very well say that Google for once in a long time did not help with my request because this specific Roomba has not be purchased by many people across the US. At this I had no options but then I remembered I got a Truck from the US and to fix parts from that was really easy. So I had to think that the Truck that I constantly fix is similar to the Roomba. So what I did was took the right wheel and the old left wheel and took out the entire thing to come to the crust which is the motor. I noticed the wires on the right wheel were in the stages of coming off and that was the reason why the unit was acting a little weird. I took the motor out from the left wheel and switched by replacing it with the motor from the left wheel. Honest to god my Parents taught I was crazy because to even to think that was the cause of how the unit must have malfunctioned was not what they taught would be close to the reason. But anyway I went with my gut which for the first time was really terrifying. I started by breaking apart the unit like I did earlier and this time started going for the wheels to check what was the core of the matter

As I was taking it out I noticed that there were a series of wires attached to each of these wheels to make them work and I noticed that the wheel on the right side had been broken and they were causing the unit to basically act possessed and not function. So I made the change by switching the motor and when I tried it out for the third time it worked like a charm

So from this big project I was working on I had learnt a couple of things

LO1: Strength and growth

the objectives for this Learning outcome is the person is able to utilize the skills he has learnt to complete the task but whilst doing that he has also gained some new skills during the process. In my case I had the ability to use my small skills I got from design class but gained some new skills like how to fix springs properly.

LO2: Challenges and Skills

This to me another goal I noticed was at most importance because one being I went through some challenges as I was making this unit brought back from the dead. So that is why I am putting this in my list of Learning of outcomes for this project I had to work with.
