“Getting on the road and driving along a road at night, or even in the daytime and seeing the oceans or whatever, is always liberating.” – Chuck D
Do you ever get really stressed to the point you just need air? Well, I do, and whenever I am feeling so overwhelmed, my dad takes me on car drives to take a break from the stress.
Lately, not only have I been stressed but I have also been pondering for ideas for my college essay and art portfolio. These car drives have been helping me take a break, get some air, and get inspiration from the outside world. These car drives are greatly distressing and also don’t put me at risk of getting the coronavirus which has been popular ubiquitously. Today, I went on another car ride and we went to the beach this time. I think watching the waves and just sitting there was really calming as I have been stressed about the amount of work I have to finish, lately. I was also able to think about many things and find solace. I would say that walking and just going out for fresh air is a really advantageous activity because it requires less work and is a form of self-care. It benefits human mental health positively and helps an individual clear their mind. In addition, I definitely felt like this was the perfect place to practice mindfulness because I felt more attuned with my emotions and relaxed after a bit. This change in scenery was really good for me since I have been at home because of school work and lockdown.
I think I will definitely keep going on car rides. I feel like just listening to music and being away from electronics causes me to stress less. It allows me to focus on the present and also helps my eyes take a break from all the light.
