Shreya’s CAS goals

Over the next two years, I’ll be monitoring my progress regarding CAS elements. These elements consist of : Creativity, Activity and Service. Participating in CAS will help me balance my school life. This will also help me gain new skills by pushing me to get out of my comfort zone.

Creativity

This year I’d like to step out of my comfort zone and try out new things.  I’d like to participate in MUN as IP (International Press). Being part of MUN has always been in my interests but I’ve always been too shy. Taking part in delegate meetings will help me gain more knowledge and experience about social issues and movements in present-day. IP is the “writing” compartment of MUN and I’m very excited to take part in this as I’ve always loved to read and write. In addition to MUN, I’ll be applying for the secretary position in SGA where I’ll be improving my organization, collaborative and leadership skills. I’ve never been much of a leader before so I hope that doing SGA will increase my leadership skills and make me more confident. In overall, creating this blog will help me record my experiences and communicate them with the world.

Activity

Besides school, I’d like to take part in physical activities this year. As I had just moved to Sri Lanka and was struggling to adjust last year, I was taking a break from sports. This year, I am determined to try out for the soccer team. I’ll be training for the try outs with my friends once lockdown is over and hope to be participating in SAISA if I get in. In addition to trying out for a school sports team, I’ve also been working out at home. Lockdown during a pandemic makes it difficult to get enough exercise so I’ve been doing the Chloe Ting workouts two times, every week. Lastly, I used to practice Yoga about two years ago. I’d like to continue it again throughout my DP years as it not only calms me down, but sharpens my concentration and balance. Doing these physical activities will not only improve my physical strength but also mental strength by relieving chronic stress patterns.

Service

“Student Ambassadors” is the service group I was part of in 10th grade. This year, because of the discontinuation of it as a service group, I’ll be doing Girls for Girls. This service group will help me learn more about female empowerment and hear the voices of young girls and women. Not only am I going to be doing Girls for Girls but I will also be I’ll be continuing ‘Student Ambassadors’ as an afterschool club, which I was a part of in 10th grade. This club will allow me to continue to help new students feel comfortable in their new environment and I consider myself to be good at this as I’ve gone through the process multiple times because of my diplomatic passport.  I’d also like to donate food to the homeless every month. As I’m Hindu, I go to the temple to worship gods every month. I noticed that there were many homeless men and women sitting in front of the gates which led me to the idea of giving food to the homeless. I’ve done it once and am keen on doing it frequently as I’m empathetic towards people who are in need of food. I’d like to provide them with what I can and I’ve been helping my mom cook food to donate for them. Lastly, I’ll be doing COMUN 2020 which will help me gain collaborative skills and I’ll improve on my organization skills when organizing the MUN conferences.

In conclusion, not only will CAS help me with gaining new experiences and skills, but it will also play a huge role in making me a better person. I’m excited to commence in this journey to character development and empirical knowledge over the course of the DP years.
