COMUN – First meeting

I attended my first MUN meeting on November 2nd, 2020. I’ve never been the strongest at public speaking because of my stage-fright but this year, I’d like to get out of my comfort zone and try out new things. As my dad is a diplomat who works for the UN, he encourages me to broaden my knowledge on global issues. The main reason I’m joining this is because not only will I be overcoming my fears, but I’ll also be raising awareness and learning about global issues and ongoing problems around the world.

The first meeting we started with introductions and topics to discuss about in the future. After the first meeting, we talked about abortion laws in different countries. This was my first debate and I think it was very successful as everyone had really good points to support their statements. I hope to be more prepared and more knowledgeable on my topic next COMUN meeting I take part in. We’ll be discussing BLM and I’m very excited because I’ve been researching this topic for the past few months and have been keeping up-to-date with the news.

COMUN covers up almost all of the learning outcomes. Not only will this club help me gain various skills and experiences, it’ll also push me out of my comfort zone and help me improve my personal development. In overall, I’m excited to be part of COMUN and am keenly looking forward to learning more about the world and becoming more confident.
