We are 5 weeks into our volleyball season and the team has been announced. We have been playing a match every Friday, we play against different teams each week for a chance to play against different skill levels. The best match we’ve had so far was on Friday the 22nd which was our 3rd match of the season. We played against Arauvala Dharmapala College who were quite skilled and had at least 2 hitters along with good survers. We weren’t panicking which we tend to do a lot but the calmness led us to a 25-19 win which happened to be the first win of the season. This was a huge milestone because last year we only won our first set actually at the competition. But the second set we experienced some confusion and ended up losing 15-25. For the 3rd set, we had a good pep talk from the coaches and got right back on track and ended up winning 25-22 which meant that we would have won the game by winning 2 out of the 3 sets played. Overall this was a very good game, especially looking back on the start of the season and the amount of inexperience we had to now, with the inexperienced players slowly becoming more experienced. I am very proud of the team seeing how far we’ve come and learning to trust each other in all aspects of the game. We are now able to bump, set, and hit each time and if it isn’t perfect then adjusting and adapting well and getting it over the net. I am very excited to see where the team can go and how well we can do at the final SAISA competition.
