FINAL CAS REFLECTION

Final Reflection

Creativity

(LO#1) Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
(LO#2) Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
(LO#4) Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Throughout DP both 1 and 2 I have been working on several creativity projects targeting different areas of creativity and the different CAS learning outcome. The main creative project that embarked on for the last 2 year was building my own surfboard. This process took almost the full 2 year which was longer than I had expected. My aim was the make a surfboard that was unique and cheaper than those bought on the market. I managed to identify my own strengths as this has been a passion of mine for a while. It has something that I have been able to improve upon developing loads of unique and new skills.

Going into the second half of DP2 after completing my surfboard project I wanted to carry on with the creativity aspect of CAS. So I decided to continue with some photography following the passion for surfing and after receiving an underwater for Christmas I started taking underwater pictures and using some of my friends as subjects to photograph.

Action

(LO#1) Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

(LO#4) Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
LO#5) Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

Activity was the area that I embarked in the most participating in numerous SAISA’s and after school activities. At the start of DP1 I set some goals to stay in shape and workout multiple times a week as to be fit and ready for when SAISA started in DP2 after a few years due to COVID. I was able to stick to my goals and worked out almost every day for most of the year which put me in a good play physically going into the SAISA year ahead. However before this near the end of DP1 we had after school activity that was focused on building out volleyball skills which is when our SASIA team started to come together to play matches and prep for the start of the following school year.

During DP2 was when SAISA was back on and it was a great year. To start was volleyball in Nepal which we were excited for as our team was one of the best we have ever had. We went in confident we were going to win and managed to come out with the win, not losing a single game in the tournament. We played well as a team and had great team chemistry. Second season was SAISA track and field which I had high hopes for as it was my last track meet and in Chennai. I set some high goals for my self hoping to get PB (personal bests) in all my events. With a lot of hard work and commitment training 4/7 days a week I won all my events including the team relays which was a proud moment. I got PB in the 100 (11.2s), 200 (23.8s), 400 (54.2s), LJ (6.70m), HJ (1.72m). Lastly was SAISA football in Dhaka which was less successful however a nice way to end my school year as we had a strong and connected team with lots of potential striving for greatness.

Service

(LO#3) Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

(LO#6) Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

(LO#7) Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

I was part of a service group called Care For Paws which I have been a part of for 6 years. In the DP program I was the service leader which was a good experience to showcase my skills as a leader. We had a very good 2 year being successful financially by organising bake sales and t-shirt sales which funded our group. Our aim is to help the street dogs of Sri Lanka and the communities they live in. We were successful as we were able to run a sterilisation camp which is our main goal and event that we try and run every year. As a group we had a successful camp during my year in DP2. Our other event this year was called Home Run and is a run for charity. We did this in collaboration with another service group as we aimed to help them and raise money for them as well as our group.

Lastly I embarked on a coaching journey helping the middle school football team progress as a team and each players skills individually. It was a great learning experience for me as I developed my football knowledge and my coaching skills. I learnt a lot during this process and enjoyed it thoroughly as I am sure the middle schoolers did as well. We organised some games for them where they got to showcase their learning and allowed myself as well to learn through a game situation on how to pursue my coaching.
