Service – Care 4 Paws

This was in 2019 and it was our service groups sterilisation camp that took place and this was our team that worked on it for a day (Ms. Francemone)

I have been in the service group Care For Paws for the last 5 years and have been taking part in all sorts of drives, events, sales and sterilisation camps. This year I have become service leader along with one other member and we are working to plan events that we can set up or participate in to raise money and help the local animal population. Previously pre-covid we have made shirts to sell to raise money, done bake sales, taken part in a “home run” which is a 5km run for charity and sales at a fair we do in school.

A big highlight for me was the sterilisation camp we did in 2019. We did one in 2018 as well but we improved a lot of aspects to make the 2019 sterilisation camp in the Sri Lanka army headquarters the best camp so far. Raising money from the shirt sales and bake sales lead up to having more than enough money to run a sterilisation camp. This was a great service opportunity as we were able to sterilise 79 dogs and also vaccinate 110 dogs along with 20 cats which was a huge achievement and even better than the year before.

This year we have already made shirts that we tie-dyed to sell. We have enough money to run two sterilisation camps this year if the opportunity appears and we will be working really hard to make that happen. Through contact we have from previous collaborations. We will take our perseverance and commitment to drive our service group to do more good for the community that we live in and to improve the quality of life for the local communities of animals.
