IVY Girls Lead

The IVY Girls Lead was a program recommended to us by Ms. Fleming. This program is by Ivy League graduates and it is very interesting because they teach girls communication, leadership and management skills. Throughout December break we had a workshop everyday (until 18th December)from 6 to 7:30 pm led by Ms. Swati Sahni. These workshops dealt with global issues as well as many daily life issues such a routine setting, goal setting and motivation. [LO6 &  LO7]

Girls from OSC also joined the program and from DP1 it was me, Sheruni, Devanga and Saesha. There were multiple speakers everyday and every session but the one speaker that stuck with me was Ms. Christy Rutherford. She truly gave us all a wake up call about self-love and the importance of being your own backbone because the person that knows you the most, is indeed yourself.  The speakers covered all sorts of topics and we also worked collaboratively in different breakout rooms to discuss current topics and share experiences with each other to help us and each other grow from the mistakes and hardships we’ve dealt with[LO5 & LO2].

Community Project:

We were asked to come up with a global issue we are very passionate about and then Ms. Swati and her team put us into groups of 4-5 girls to work on a community project. My group has Sheruni, Saesha, me, Clara and a girl names Vinuki from AIS. Wr collectively chose the topic of women in prison and we are currently In the process of bringing this project to life. We received guidance from the UN themselves and that was greatly helpful. I was the one who contacted them through Julius’ Mother. [LO3 & LO4]

As a self reflection, there is a lot that I need to learn and need to improve upon but also there is a lot of knowledge that I didn’t know I had, and topics I didn’t know I would be so passionate about such as Women in Prison, toxic masculinity, rights for people below the poverty line, cyber safety and many more. Only after these sessions I realised how passionate I am about giving back to the society. I constantly found myself unmuting myself to talk when they asked to share or ask questions from the speaker.[LO4 & LO6]

Things I can improve on is, better articulation of ideas and giving other the opportunity to speak as well. Because sometimes I get too passionate and only think of what I want to say which is something I need more control over.[LO1 & LO2].  I am still improving on that till today, and I will continue to do so. The image below is an example of our planning and processing of the community project. [LO3]

We as a group for the Community project had to present and we made a couple of slides. Attached below:

This presentation required a lot of confidence and work and us 5 as a group also had meetings where we discussed how to go about presenting[LO5 & LO6]. It was an interesting process and it was rewarding. We have ur graduation coming up at the end of march. The following pictures are of the presentation slides.
