On 17th February, Housing and Habitat hosted its most renowned event, Homerun. The idea behind Homerun is to gather parents, teachers, and students to participate in a 5km run to raise money for service groups (mostly H&H and Care for Paws) to fund their projects. Our team planned this event 2-3 weeks before the date and finalized all equipment, staff, and tasks. Throughout the 5km route, there were 7 checkpoints/stops that aid the runners for directions as well as provided them water from our hydration stops. I was posted with Leia (7th grade) and Conner (10th grade) at the first water stop on a corner of a street across the Agriculture Institution.

Although the run itself went smooth, there are some factors that could be improved. For example, the run starting time was 7:45 and the service group had to be at school at 7 so we could set up each stop with the van, however, there was a big problem. The drivers did not know the route initially, which is why me and Jed were put as navigators however when we communicated with the drivers there was a big language barrier and we took a very long detour that cost us time. Instead of starting at 7:45, we had to start at 8:10 because of our poor management skills. Although we made this mistake, we can avoid this next year by sending the route to the drivers before hand as well as the group coming earlier to organize and arrange everything.

Overall, this year’s HomeRun raised around 150,000 rupees total, and since Care for Paws co-organized this with us, they got 25% of our savings and we kept the rest. Housing for Habitat is very proud to have raised this much money and contributed to funding projects.
