During my entire teenage life, I have always wanted to go to the gym and work out and improve my overall fitness so that I have good strength and a foundation for any sport that I play. I have always felt like I have potential to do so much more in terms of physical activity, especially in a gym.

Recently I began training with a coach, and it has now been 1 month since starting. To be honest, before this I was always researching on home work outs and diets that I could do by myself. But like many people, I struggled to keep myself motivated and it wasnt working; my record is working out for 5 days consistently and never as much again.

Since starting with my trainer, I have realized that training in the gym and playing sports is very different. I thought that because I had a lot of strength especially in my lower body (due to football) that I would be able to lift heavy weights and such. However I realized that going to the gym requires the correct form and technique which, as a newcomer, takes a bit of time to learn.

So far, we have been lifting some weights, such as bench press, dumbell press, bicep curl, deadlift, weighted squat, lat pulldowns, and others. These have largely worked my upper body and I am very proud with the weights that I have been lifting. For the bench press, so far I have only done 35kg and will stay consistent with this weight so that I don’t injure myself. However, for the lateral pull downs, I have done 40-45kg and I am very proud of it as I have only just started training.

My trainer advised me, to stay consistent, I should doo 100 pushups on my knees everyday so that I am still working my muscles. For now, we are only having Wednesday and Saturday to train as a starting point, and I have to be honest this is more fun than I thought.

My overall general goal is to tone up my body and create more definition in my upper body, taking in mind that I am also getting ready for SAISA football this upcoming January.
