With SAISA coming up in less than a month, we have begun again to train more intensively, especially because we are coming back from back. Because I was out of the country, I did not train as much as the girls who were in Sri Lanka and had sessions. Yesterday, Tuesday 9th Jan, was our first official session back from break and we mostly trained on our stamina and running endurance. Firstly, we started with sprinting from place to another, for example, from the goal line to the half way line. We did this for around 10 minutes with variations that raised our heart rate immensely.
Afterwards, we did a fun exercise that focused on improving our defense of our ball and moving into spaces that are safe for us. Yesterday we had 12 girls at practice, we created a small box and everyone got except for the defender. I was up first, and my goal was to kick out all of their balls as fast as I can. Both the defenders and attackers practiced skills that needed improving in our real time games.
After our targeted workouts, we played a 5 a-side for the rest of the session to work on our calling, positioning and passing too. At times during the game, Mr Turner would stop us to explain possible strategies that we could play in that moment. We also played to prepare for our game against Lyceum on Friday, to get used to playing with each other again and our chemistry.
For me personally, I think I can improve my passing when playing outside the goal because at times I may pass the ball inaccurately and to the opposing team, or too hard which results in a bad touch for my teammates.
