During our International Day, on October 6th, each grade was assigned a younger grade to do a workshop with, to teach and inform them about SDG 16. Depending on our chosen grade, we would make a presentation about the UN and SDGs and a certain activity to practice the skills we discussed.
Me, Aniq, and Irina were teamed up to teach grade 3, however, one girl was very shy and not participating in our activities. I saw that she was holding the Chinese flag (assuming that was her nationality), so I went and talked to her in Chinese. I’m very happy that I did because I found out that she did not understand anything we were saying (in English) and I re-explained everything in Chinese. She looked much happier and excited when I talked with her in Chinese, and I’m glad that I was able to contribute more by applying my linguistic skills in this valuable workshop. Not only did I help someone, but this also slightly improved my Chinese conversational skills.
Apart from our workshops, during our break we went downstairs in the canteen and ate different nationality’s food.
During this, I talked with different people in many languages, for example talking in Bulgarian to a Russian and them understanding. I applied my language skills in many different ways and I also learned about different cultures and their linguistic.
